Sensory Rhyme Time

Sensory Rhyme Time

During this activity we sing songs that are accompanied by different sensory experiences.  Some of the children also physically engage with some of the rhymes, using actions at different times to make something happen.  Sensory Rhyme Time is a great opportunity to develop skills in all areas, communication, physical development and engagement.

In our first half term topic "Who put the colours in the rainbow?", the children really enjoyed the song 5 Coloured Bottles.  The bottles were filled with different coloured beads, water beads, paint, glitter or water.  Children developed their physical skills, reaching out to knock the bottles from their tray.  We also promoted the development of communication skills, supporting children to use symbols or sounds to ask for the songs to continue.

Take a look at us in action!

Evie used eyegaze to chose which colour to do next
Jack loved knocking them down
Lois reached out to knock them off
Massine liked the feel of the bottles
He thought they were very funny
Jack loved knocking them all at the same time
