Welcome to Holly Class
This half term we have been learning all about the circus.
Donnie, Connor, Hafsa, Isaac, Zeeman and Lewis have all embraced the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the Holly class circus.
We are working towards developing our social and functional communication, social interaction and sensory regulation.
We have been reading and exploring a mixture of fictional stories and non fiction texts that have enabled us to get a feel for what it is like in the circus.
Our fictional stories have taken us to a world where Paddington and Marvin the Magician visit the circus for the first time and our non fiction texts have given us a sneak peek into circuses around the world: Moscow State Circus and Cirque du Soleil.
We have been working on our use of descriptive language in Holly class with regards to storytelling and applying it to everyday scenarios. We also link back to emotional literacy as we are all learning how to express our feelings and recognise them in others.
In numeracy we have used circus tickets and price lists to recognise numerals and understand that a numeral also reflects a quantity. Some of us have been working hard with regards to addition and subtraction, working out how much items cost at the circus.
At the circus there seems to be lots of different 2D and 3D shapes so we have been classifying, sorting and recognising them.
In Holly class we use all the different facilities around school. We go swimming and participate in rebound therapy twice a week. We have our friday morning cookery sessions where we have made a circus tent sponge cake, clown face wraps and clown biscuits. We do lots of physical activity and in PE at the moment we have been working on our ball skills linked to Tennis.
