In cookery the boys are making cheesecakes. We are using a technique called ‘back chaining’, which involves breaking down the steps of a task and teaching them in reverse order. This gives the boys an experience of success and completion with every attempt.
Instead of the child starting at the beginning and getting lost somewhere through the process, it will give the boys the chance to watch all the steps with each time completing one more step than the previous.
Hopefully by the end of the 6-week term all the boys can make a cheesecake as independently as possible.
