Physical Development Spring 2 2017

Acorn class have been working hard on their physical development this term during our weekly rebound and swimming sessions. The children have been enjoying individual sessions in the rebound room and we have been working hard on teaching them different movements such as tuck, star and twist jumps. We have also been working on travelling across the trampoline in different ways including on our knees and when in a sitting position.

We have also been working towards our swimming targets during our weekly swimming session including kicking our legs, using our arms to splash the water and jumping in from the side of the pool.

Physical Development Spring 2 2017

This term Acorn class have begun horse riding lessons. We visit Burrows Lane Farm every Thursday afternoon where we spend some time stroking the horses and learning about horse care.  We are then able to ride the horses with help from the adults. We are learning how to use the reins and our feet to make the horses start and stop.

We also enjoy a weekly session to Action Zone soft play centre every Monday afternoon, where we always have lots of fun running, jumping and whizzing down the slide.

We have also been making the most of the nicer weather and have been spending more time in our outdoor area. The children enjoy a morning playtime outside after snack and time outside after lunch. Staff use this time to help to develop the children's play skills such as turn taking with friends. The children are also encouraged to let off some steam by running, jumping, climbing and bouncing!

Alfie has been working on copying several different jumps and movements on the trampoline over the term. He is now starting to copy a simple routine including a tuck jump, a twist jump and a bounce onto his knees - well done Alfie!!

Physical Development Activities Spring 1 2017

All of the children in Acorn class really enjoy the physical aspect of the curriculum. We use the indoor equipment in our sensory room every morning, which involves bouncing on the trampoline, being swung in the parachute and balancing on the stepping stones. We have been working on our social communication during these sessions and we are getting really good at using the photographs to request what we want and using symbols to request more.

We love to explore the play equipment in our outdoor area during playtime and lunchtime and enjoy climbing, balancing and running outside. We also have  weekly visit to a soft play centre, during which we are able to practice our physical skills in a safe environment.

We also enjoy a weekly rebound and swimming session at Millstead primary school. Our rebound sessions provide a good opportunity for us to practice our social interaction skills through intensive interaction with an adult. We have also been working hard on copying an adult do different jumps and simple sequences on the trampoline. We all have individual swimming targets that we work towards during our swim session but we also always make sure we make time to just have fun with our friends in the water!!
