Cedar Class

Welcome to Cedar Class! smiley

 

Our class is made up of 4 girls and 6 boys. Our teacher is Sophie and we have 2 learning support assistants called Michelle and Emma. We also have an apprentice called Laura.  

 

We work really hard in Cedar class and get to explore lots of different subjects. We get to go on an educational visit each week to develop our independent living skills. We all have our own individual targets that we are working on.

We had a fantastic time at Chester Zoo! We saw monkeys, giraffes, elephants and we even heard a lion roar! frown

This week is sports week and we will be participating in lots of activities. Here is a list of what we will be up to:

  • Tennis

  • Gymnastics

  • Athletics

07.06.17 Summer Term 2

Our topic for this term is Monsters Inc. Take a look at what we will be learning:

  • Literacy - Instructions, imaginary stories and poetry.
  • Numeracy - shape, money, calculations, handling data, time and number
  • Swimming – Swimming on our backs, floating and getting dressed independently
  • History - History of High Tea
  • Geography - Features of local areas
  • Science - Forces
  • Cookery – Items for High Tea
  • Music – Minster sounds using instruments and our voices
  • PE – Tennis
  • Art - Monster puppets and sculptures  
  • Independent living skills - zips, buttons, shoe laces and road safety.

 

We will also be taking part in sports week and serving high tea for all the children who are graduating to secondary school in September.

Hi Everyone,

 

Cedar Class have worked so hard this half term and have had an awesome time learning all about Cowboys and the Wild West. We have also spent a lot of time in the community using our numeracy skills to pay for items. Take a look at the slide show below to see just a few of the things we have been up to!

It is Summer term and we are having a fantastic time learning all about the Wild West.

Here is what we will be learning:

  • Literacy - Sheriff Woody nonfiction text
  • Numeracy - shape, money, calculations, handling data and number
  • Swimming – Swimming on our backs, floating and getting dressed independently
  • History - History of the USA
  • Science - Materials and their properties
  • RE – My tribe
  • Cookery – Cowboy delights
  • Music – Creating musical stories
  • PE – Obstacle courses
  • Art - Printing and making patterns 
  • Independent living skills - zips, buttons, shoe laces and road safety.

Today we went to Tam O'Shanter farm to see if we could spot the animals from our class story 'A Squash and a Squeeze'. We had a wonderful time and found a pig, a goat and a hen from the story. We think the cows may have been asleep because we couldn't spot any! smiley

Spring term 2 is already in motion and the children had be working their socks off!

Here is a sneak peek at all the things we are learning this term:

  • Geography - A small village in India
  • Science - Life processes and living things
  • RE – Hinduism and the Easter story
  • Cookery – Indian foods
  • Music – Creating moods and scenes
  • PE – Football
  • Art - Sculptures 
  • Independent living skills - zips, buttons, shoe laces and road safety.

Cedar Class frown

Today we walked to the Walker Art Gallery to look at some famous sculptures. We got to see lots of different types of sculptures and really enjoyed looking at how old some of them were. Have a little look at the pictures we took to see what we got up to. We also have been working on our road safety skills and remembered to stop, look and listen every time we had to cross a road.

We have been very busy this term learning all about Henry VIII and Tudor times. Here is a sneak peek at all the things we have been learning:

  •  Literacy - Shakespeare, non fiction texts and poetry
  •  Numeracy - shape, pattern, time, calculations, handling data and number
  • Swimming – floating, getting in and out of the water safely and travelling from side to side
  • History - Henry VIII and life in Tudor times
  • Science - Keeping warm and materials in Tudor times
  • RE – Churches
  • Cookery – Tudor breads
  • Music – Creating our own Tudor style music
  • PE – Making our own Tudor dance
  • Art - portraits and patterns

 

We are also preparing for our school Christmas play and making our classroom magical making our own decorations!
